Our History

Founding and Legacy of Ummu Dhardha Ladies Islamic College

Ummu Dhardha Ladies Islamic College, a prestigious institution for Islamic higher education, is situated within the Miranagar Mosque premises in Akkaraipattu.

Established on March 21, 2010, by Abdur Rahman Hajiar with just 13 students, the college emerged as the first Islamic Kala Peedah dedicated to women’s Islamic education in the region. make a section title to this.

Growth and Development

The college initially operated from Hajiar’s home before relocating to Dr. Jalil’s residence due to space constraints. Later, under the leadership of Principal Abdul Hameed Maulavi, and with the efforts of the Board of Governors led by M.M. Mustafa, the college secured a permanent location at the Miranagar Mosque. The institution was officially relocated to its current premises on December 12, 2012, and has since produced 50 qualified Alimahs.

Academic Excellence

Ummu Dhardha College follows a five-year Shariah program, awarding the “Maulavia” certificate upon completion.

The curriculum, aligned with the Union of Arab Colleges of Sri Lanka, integrates:

  1. G.C.E. O/L (Year 2)
  2. State Examinations (Al Aalim, Ahatiyyah, Dharmachari) (Year 4)
  3. G.C.E. A/L & Al-Melawawiyya Exam (Final Year)
  4. Co-curricular Courses in tailoring, architecture, aesthetics, first aid, and leadership
  5. Language Proficiency in English, Sinhala, and ICT

Institutional Recognition

Following the April 21, 2019 bomb attacks, the college faced government scrutiny but successfully obtained official registration under the Department of Muslim Cultural Affairs. Operating under Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah principles, the institution ensures compliance with national regulations.

Vision for the Future

Under the leadership of Professor Al-Habib M.I.M. Siddiq (Al-Azhari), appointed as Principal on June 1, 2019, the college underwent rebranding with a defined mission, vision, and objectives. It aims to:

  2.  Promote human dignity, unity, and cultural diversity
  3. Enhance students’ analytical and creative thinking
  4. Prepare graduates for leadership roles in Islamic and global contexts
